Research beyond borders

The European Union integration process generates an increasing need for detailed knowledge of vocational training and labour market policies in different member states. Céreq collaborates with other European peer to conduct comparative research on key aspects of its work programme.

In keeping with its medium-term research goals, Céreq uses international benchmarks as an essential tool for assessing the impact of national policies and evaluating the consistency between national legal frameworks and European overreaching strategies. For this purpose, Céreq continuously monitors all major EU-funded programmes and frequently participates in European research and cooperation projects.Moreover, Céreq oversees implementation of the European Continuing Vocational Training Survey (CVTS) in France (in collaboration with DARES and INSEE) and provides expertise and analyses to European institutions (Cedefop, ETF), international organisations (OECD, UNESCO) and French governmental agencies supporting international cooperation (DREIC, CIEP, Expertise France). Céreq is also an active participant in national steering committees for adopting the European Qualifications Framework and European Credit Transfer System in Vocational Education (ECVET), and working groups for reforming the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).Outside of Europe, Céreq is involved in a number of international cooperation, methodological support and knowledge exchange programmes, mainly with Mediterranean and Latin American countries.

“Capability and Diversity in a Global Society”

The theme of the HDCA Capacity Conference, in Japan, on 1 and 3 september, was this year "Diversity". The session attended by Josiane Vero, a researcher at Céreq, was the following: « Individuals’ Capabilities and Vocational Training within Firms: International Comparison on Communication tools, Voice and Participation Scheme ». A core question was then: Under what conditions does corporate training contribute to develop individual capabilities? How is continuing training dealt with at the company level and what scope of choice and means of achievement is associated with it? What are the processes and tools at stake?

Preventing early school leaving

The final meeting of the TITA project was held on 17 October in Lyon, France. The project has occupied Céreq for the past three years in evaluating the activities of the multi-disciplinary teams engaged in preventing early school leaving. The Céreq team, made up of Dominique Maillard,  Pascale Rouaud and Fanette Merlin, carried out several waves of surveys that combined quantitative and qualitative methods in order to evaluate the measures being taken in three different national contexts: France, Luxembourg and francophone Switzerland. The theme of the results presented in Lyon was "Prevention and collaborations in differentiated school models.
