Is an apprenticeship a way to become independent?
Of the young people who left the education system in 2017, almost half were no longer living with their parents in their final year of education. While the trend of leaving the family home is more prevalent among those in higher education, it can occur earlier for young people enrolled in vocational courses, particularly those choosing a work-study apprenticeship. This Céreq Bref focuses on the influence of work-study programmes on young people's residential autonomy and highlights their ability to act as a lever for emancipation at the start of working life.
