Apprenticeships: a stepping stone to returning to education since the 2018 reform
2023 Survey of the 2017 Cohort.
Since the 2018 reform, apprenticeships have undergone a profound transformation, becoming more popular and appealing to a wider range of people. Once seen as a route into initial training, they are now also providing a second chance for young people who have left the education system. The 2017 cohort is proof of this, with more individuals returning to work-study programmes later in life, often with the aim of obtaining a qualification or changing career. While the pre-recruitment logic is fading, apprenticeships still offer clear advantages in terms of integration and access to stable employment. This Céreq Bref, based on the 2023 survey of the 2017 cohort, paints a portrait of those who returned to study after 2018.
