When circular economy attempts to restore meaningfulness to work: The case of upcycling centres
Driven by the growth of the second-hand goods sector, upcycling and recycling centres offer employment opportunities and the promise of social integration to people who are excluded from the labour market. Based on a survey of employees within such organisations, this Céreq Bref examines the paradoxes of an activity that is meaningful due to its social and ecological utility, but also a source of disappointment due to the limited career prospects it offers to many of its former employees.
