Perspectives for anaerobic digestion

Posted on

Céreq has analysed the emergence of environmentally friendly professional practices in three sectors: construction, agricultural anaerobic digestion and freight transport and logistics. The present analysis focuses on the anaerobic digestion (AD) industry with the aim of illustrating the new training and skills needs.

The principal results of these studies are published in a Céreq study entitled "The emergence of environmentally friendly practices. Three analyses in the construction, anaerobic digestion and transport sectors ".

The AD industry is now getting off the ground in France. Development targets have been fixed for the coming years by the public authorities at both national and regional level.

Although the regulatory, technical, financial and societal obstacles are fairly clearly identified, human capital remains the industry's blind spot. The employment prospects are not insignificant. On the assumption that government targets for the production of energy and heat from biogas for 2020 will be met, the ATEE's Biogas Club estimates that the number of direct jobs in the industry will increase from 2,046 full-time equivalents (FTEs) in 2014 to 6,134 FTEs in 2020.
