The influence of initial education cannot be captured solely through the lens of the level of qualification achieved but has to be viewed from a genuinely dynamic perspective. It is an individual’s entire educational career that appears decisive. The studies take into account questions concerning advice or guidance on courses, selection, the financing of education, years of education repeated, academic trajectory, educational pathways followed and types of qualifications obtained. Thus among the young people who completed their education in 2013, three quarters of higher education graduates embarked on trajectories leading to stable employment. For those with upper secondary qualifications, only half gained access to such employment. Of these, holders of a CAP or BEP obtained through an apprenticeship effected the transition into the labour market more easily than their counterparts who went down the academic route. Just 21% of those with lower secondary qualifications only found stable employment.
