Agricultural education, an important future project

Publié le

Agriculture is now a very small part of the business. Nevertheless, it is a field at the heart of essential activities, as the crisis resulting from Covid 19 reminds us. The specificity of training in this field results both from a global reflection on the productive organisation of the sector and from an original organisation of training.

Public agricultural home economics schools in the Doubs region swayed between morality, technical teaching and household chores from 1910 to 1960

Fabien Knittel, Adeline Divoux-Bonvalot

Technical teaching within agricultural home economics schools was specifically proposed to young women coming from the countryside. The aim was to convince these women to work in their village family farm, in a period when rural-urban migration increased (1910-1960). During this period, in the Doubs region, all types of home economics schools were coexisting. Our contention is to show how important this agricultural household teaching was for these young rural women. Although this teaching did not allow them to be radically emancipated, it humbly enabled them to evolve in rural areas during the first half of the 20th century. This represented a way to achieve independence and be freed from some constraints imposed by the patriarchal society.

Rural family homes, a place of scholastic remediation

Joachim Benet Rivière

This article examines the changing roles adopted by rural family homes in terms of education and guidance, due to the second wave of educational democratization. By studying the transformations of supervisors and tutors, as well as their representative roles, we see how this institution, which provides sandwich courses, has become a place for scholastic remediation. The diminishing agricultural population and increasing number of students who have experienced difficulties in secondary education, mean its aims have been renewed.

Educational potential of the training device : benefits on the autonomy of students ? The case of personalised support in the french vocational Baccalauréat in food technology

Youri Meignan, Claire Masson

The autonomisation of students has become an essential reference point for educational processes. Declared as a critical value, how can it become an operational educational approach’s goal during a food industry vocational training ? The article is based on a collaborative research within the framework of the « Rénovation de la Voie Professionnelle » (French Renovation of the Vocational Path) (2009). The challenge is to study the ways in which a device can be a mean to overcome the paradox often used to think about the process of autonomisation : how can autonomy be stimulated using heteronomous frameworks ? This study updates various processes of autonomisation through the ability for students to grasp and combine a plurality of milieus, each referring to different norms, of which the device is intentionally composed.

Practising veterinary medicine : different projects determined by gender, since initial training

Christine Fontanini

In France the veterinary profession reached parity between men and women. However, some specific fields are leading by women or men. Our goal is to study what veterinary students think about working in large animals and if it is compatible with their skills, their private life and their representations. The results of the qualitative study show that women face obstacles and impediments when they choose to work in large animal practice and as associated liberals.

The agro-ecological transition in the implementation of occupational reference : the case of two agricultural “BTS”

Cécile Gazo, Loïc Mazenc

This study focuses on the place of occupational reference in the evolution of agricultural education in connection with the transformation of agriculture. It includes a qualitative and comparative analysis of the content of the professional occupational reference of two BTS (Advanced Technician’s Certificate) : Agronomy Crop’s Production and Analysis, Management and Strategy of Agricultural Enterprises, as well as their consideration by teachers. Renovations of occupational reference, essential steps in the development of agricultural education, are not enough to ensure the link between training and employment as agricultural practices change.
