30 years of homologation. A mode of certification based on the logic of diplomas

The present homologation procedure, which developed as part of the move to make continuing vocational training officially recognized at State level in France, is actually very similar to the initial vocational education and training system in many respects. For the first ten years after the new system was launched, the Technical Commission responsible for its implementation was largely inspired by the logic of educational diplomas, despite the fact that the new qualifications were designed for adults. The emphasis was subsequently placed on criteria based on the logic of employment, and yet at the same time, the qualifications available were still being adapted to make them resemble the State educational system's diplomas more closely. Throughout the history of this homologation process, the nomenclature of vocational training levels has consistently played an essential role.
